Garden Gold Honey

Original oil painting on deep profile wrapped canvas. I handcrafted the wood float-style frame.

This honey can attracted me for the name, obviously. I acquired it years ago at a local antique shop. I am no relation to a Nelson Wheeler from West Bloomfield, although I grew up in neighboring East Bloomfield, New York. I absolutely love the bold, brightly colored label, hanging on to the can for all these years, despite its age and wear. I do wish I knew more about its origin. My decision to choose an equally bold floral background was to emphasize the linear font choices and character of the label. A bee is attracted to pollen through its many senses. This painting ignites the visual sense with a monochromatic balance of organic floral shapes and is many vintage font styles.

When there is more than one item in my still life paintings, I will often choose them by ensuring that the first letter of each is consecutive in the alphabet. For this painting, Garden Gold Honey the consecutive letters are G and H.
